Hosted twice a year, health fairs are a ”one-stop opportunity” for information and services relating to blood and HIV/AIDS tests, cholesterol tests, diabetes counseling, nutrition, flu shots, veterans, legal issues, substance abuse, housing, etc.
These fairs are proven critical for downtown homeless and those with limited transportation. Held at the dining and shelter complex locations, an average of 25 agencies participate and over 300 clients attend.
ANNUAL MARCH AGAINST HUNGER
Bethany House and the Laredo Homeless Coalition have been coordinating and participating in the March Against Hunger and Homelessness since 1991.
An average of 250 people from different industries and non-profit agencies join the eight block walk every year. After the march, the participants are offered a humbling meal of rice and beans prepared at the Bethany House kitchen.
Mass celebrations are scheduled for the First Friday of each month and for special events and church holidays. Priests from various parishes volunteer to celebrate the mass to which any and all guests are welcome.
