During the summer since 2001, the Bethany House, in collaboration with the Laredo ISD and the Boys Club of Laredo, conducts an extended summer school program for those children residing the shelter complex. The objective is to provide alternative education activities over the summer for youth that otherwise would remain at shelters or inactive at home or streets.
Over time, some of the activities have included computer lab use, theatre arts, field trips and recreational activities, such as swimming, basketball, and other indoor games.
The Bethany House provides transportation and serves meals to children participating in this program. An average of 30 children participate in this summer program.
