Founded in 1982 by Father Charles McNaboe, Bethany House thanks your interest and care in our programs. The initial purpose of the Bethany House was to feed the hungry, but it became apparent the population eating at the tables of the Bethany House needed much more than a free meal. Bethany House serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner six days a week for any and all walk-in clients. On Sundays, clients receive a bag lunch. Bethany House has many, many other meal and food service programs to meet the needs of this Texas border community. Read More...

The homeless, indigent, elderly, veterans, disabled, and residents of the emergency shelter complex are the targeted population. Meal, shelter and resource center services are free of charge. While this is what the Bethany House is most known for, it is by no means all it does.

Lamar Bruni Vergara Community Shelter. Provides 28 emergency shelter beds and 8 efficiency units for individuals and families, operated by the Homeless Coalition (more..)

Guadalupe and Lilia Martinez Resource Center. Offers amenities such as social, medical, mental health, employment, job training and life skills referral and direct services for all homeless and indigent individuals during the day (more..)

The store provides clothing for clients, and recycled home furniture for the indigent. As well, all proceeds generated from store activity are utilized to help feed and shelter those in need.

The Thrift Store is located within the Bethany House dining facility at 819 Hidalgo.

Located just a block away from the kitchen and shelter complex at 920 Hidalgo, the store provides items that are a step-up in quality from those of the thrift store. It has a stock of great quality clothing, home décor items, furniture, electronics, and many other treasures. The store allow us to providing clothing for residents, including school children and adults in search of a job. Great place to shop for the entire family!
